Quote from Hyperactive :When asked if Maldonado was only at Williams in the first place because of money, Williams said: "Yeah, he was to some extent. I'm not denying that. But if we thought he'd been a wanker, he wouldn't have got in the team no matter how much money he had.

From what I've seen from him in GP2, Maldonado comes as a guy who can control a race when he's around the front. But when he's in a deep pack and has to make his way through the field, he has brainfades. Hence why reversed grid races often went wrong for him.

Maybe the F1 week-end format fits him better.

Quote from Cornys :Sounds good, with a little hint of danger hidden in the shadows . We could have guessed that the draft would have more effect though with the bigger body. Anybody with a brain might have guessed that.

I got a bad feeling before the Daytona races this year for NASCAR, and I'm already getting the same feel for Indy's ovals. I hope this one turns out like my Daytona fears did

If that can make you feel better, the new car seems to be really stable and safe to drive. No one touched the SAFER barrier in 3 days of open practice and 2 days of rookie orientation.

Quote from Mustafur :Its mainly the qualifying performance thats being looked at, in that regard he is being destroyed.

That said... With the new tyres, and the DRS gimmick making passing much easier, qualifying isn't as important as it was 2 or 3 years ago.

Quote from JazzOn :Till then this might do. The front just needed to be squeezed as well as the back which had to be rotated

Edit: quickly converted the other RB's and since the "boom town" doesn't exceed my painting skills i'll redo that in hi-res

Looking good! Cheers

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Yeah I know. I just want to see him in F1 already.

Yes, I understand. 2012 was going to be too early though, as making the jump from GP3 to F1 is a bit too much to ask.

That says, he's sitting in a pretty good place right now. I kinda like his career path so far. Several seasons of F3/GP3, then one season of Friday practices, while he can learn how an F1 team, work with no real pressure. Way to build an individual and make him mature properly, without rushing him into the headlights too soon(ie: Alguersuari).

Some could argue that a season of WSR/GP2 level might be missing. But avoiding GP2 might have been a good call, as the championship favours experienced drivers big times these days, which makes it hard for rookies to get into pace quickly.

That said, we might been burrying Senna too soon. Keep in mind that he was leading Maldonado in the points before Barcelona, 14 to 4. And he has had a fabulous drive in the wet at Sepang, as BlueFlame pointed out.

That looks pretty cool

If anyone knows where to find this skin, please tell us. Cheers.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Finally. Senna should GTFO.

Hey, it's just a silly rumour. Don't get so excited too early.

I reckon this might not all depends of Senna's results, but also of the checks he brings. Although Williams already have plenty of bucks coming from Chavez via Maldonado, and perhaps could do without a 2nd pay driver.

Making a replacement mid-season does not seem to be such a great idea though, as Bottas doesn't know many of the non-European tracks. I think they would rather do it for 2013.

Default skins

For some reason my LFS does not have any default skin for LX4.

Those are the skins present in the S1H7 version. There might have been different skins in the previous versions of the game, I don't know.

______

Part 1

The BHM FXO skin was re-made by the devs for S2.

BaileyWine/Volante RB4 skin - S1 to S2 convert?

Hi everyone

This skin is, in my honest opinion, one of the most emblematic one of S1. Unfortunately, the developpers decided not to make an S2 version of it.

So, would anyone be up to either:
  • Convert the 512 version to S2 template? I have the feeling this wouldn't be such a hard thing to do, as S1 and S2 templates are (IIRC) very similar, only the rear and the front are significantly different.
  • Make a brand new 2048(+) version? Obviously this would request much more time and efforts, but the results would be much more rewarding, too.
The skin file can be found in the attachements.

BTW, this is not really a personal request. I am requesting this on behalf of the community. IMHO, it is a shame that such a fine skin, which also represents a part of the game's history, has been left in the obscurity for so many years.

Thanks

____

PS1: Does anyone know if any of the other S1 skins have been converted to/remade for S2? The Tico and Boom RB4 skins have been converted by garph, and they can be found here. Then the devs re-made some of the others(including the McGill MRT ones) for S2. What about the others?

PS2: Does anyone know where to find old S1 skins made by 3rd party skinners?

Looks like more than just engine issues for poor Simona. Taken from another forum:

Quote :As I posted in the Simona thread, they had a lot of conversation that could be heard on the scanner. It sounded like they were really struggling to find a good balance on the car. She reported on basically every run that the car was 'hopping' on entry and sometimes on exit, that it would grip, then no grip, grip, no grip, etc. At one point she said paraphrasing, "I am not trying to be a wuss, but I don't feel comfortable pushing it when it feels like this". So, I do not think she has tried at all to see what that car has. I really hope they get things figured out, but at this point, I do not believe HVM has tried to see what the Lotus engine has with their car handling issues.

E: HVM and Fan Force United sound pretty much pessimistic about the Lotus engine, too: http://www.indystar.com/articl ... 205140314/1217/SPORTS0107

Quote :IndyCar's rule is that all cars be within 105 percent of the fastest car on the track, although new race director Beaux Barfield said after Sunday's practice that application of that is tied more to the race.

Barfield said it was "unlikely" that cars at the low end will be denied a chance to start the 500, but they'd better not lag behind after the green flag.

"It's more of a concern for the race," Barfield said of their slowness.

Based on Saavedra's lap of 221.526 mph, others would need to run about 211 mph to be within 105 percent. Alesi ran 205.265 mph on his 31st of 32 laps Sunday with Fan Force United, while De Silvestro posted her fastest lap of the weekend -- 202.179 mph -- on her final lap Sunday with HVM Racing.

Alesi got to 209.438 mph on Saturday, the opening day of official practice. Practice continues today from noon to 6 p.m. with qualifying this weekend.

"The biggest thing is we don't have enough power," said De Silvestro, the 500's Rookie of the Year in 2010. "Asking (the car) to do these speeds and it feels terrible. If we were doing speeds we're supposed to be doing, I think it would be good."

De Silvestro said the team has to be careful to take incremental steps so as to not get in trouble.

"(IMS) can bite pretty quickly," she said.

HVM owner Keith Wiggins said there is more adjustments the crew can make to help De Silvestro.

"But they're not change-the-world bits," he said. "A couple of pieces (worth) a couple of miles per hour."

At the Fan Force United garage, team officials said Alesi is delivering everything the car has to offer.

"He's flat (on the accelerator)," team co-owner and two-time 500 starter Tyce Carlson said.

Pics of the opening testing day: http://www.beverphotography.co ... =1843771026&k=vKJQQGZ

That car looks sooo much more racy with the speedway aero package.

Check James Jakes' girlfriend on picture #74:wow:

Quote from Yuri Laszlo :ahead of Simona, who played the *crappy Lotus engine of the day* card today.

Installation laps perhaps? Keep in mind that Alesi had a 186 best the opening day, after roughly 15 laps - same amount Simona did yesterday.

Quote from englishlord :His time is slowest than the slowest qualifying time in 2009 for that circuit. Just to put this year's formula 1 in context. I don't think "who has the least shit time with tyres" is a great yard stick for a driver's competency nor is a one off qualifying slot disproving of the statement.

Most track records were set in 2004 actually.

E: Can't belive you didn't list Maldonado's famous Monaco incident in WSR... I mean cmon, it has been THE #1 anti-Maldonado argument for YEARS.
